Careers in the Beef Industry

Activity:   Student's Choice

  • Write a letter to one of the people in the career profiles explaining why you would like to spend a day on the job with that person. Identify the parts of the job of interest to you. Include some questions you may have for the person.

4-H Program

The 4-H program whose purpose is the personal development of youth, is available to young people aged 10 to 21. An adult volunteer works with a group of these young adults who wish to learn new skills. A wide variety of topics are available from drama, photography, cooking to animal care. In the 4-H beef project, members learn about the beef industry and the care and feeding of an animal. 4-H members are often seen at fairs with their project animals. For more information, contact the Ontario 4-H Council at 1-800-937-5161 or check out the web site at http://www.4-Hontario.ca

The 4-H pledge reads:
My head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service;
My health to better living for my club, my community and my country.

  • What do each of the "h's" mean?
  • How is this pledge appropriate for an organization like 4-H?
  • How could this pledge be applied to other organizations?
